More recently known as VisitFlorida.com Racing, Spirit of Daytona Racing will revert to its original name in 2018 with a brand new car and lineup.
The team is the third to run a Cadillac DPi-V.R. and it will employ Tristan Vautier and Matt McMurry in 2018. The Troy Flis-owned team joins defending IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Prototype champions Wayne Taylor Racing and Action Express Racing under the Cadillac marque.
The No. 90 entry will make its unofficial debut on the weekend of January 5-7 for the Roar before the 24 test at Daytona International Speedway with Vautier, a former Pro Mazda and Indy Lights champion. A third driver for the endurance rounds will be revealed soon, according to a team press release.
“The big thing is the opportunity to work with some of the same folks that we were so successful with when we were racing the Corvette Daytona Prototype,” said Flis, who ran a Ligier piloted by Marc Goossens and Renger van der Zande in 2017. “Hopefully that will help us get up to speed with this car quickly. IMSA is going to be even more competitive in 2018 and we are really looking forward to being a factor with our new Cadillac package.”
Rich Brekus, global director of product strategy for Cadillac, sees Spirit of Daytona as a pivotal inclusion for the marque.
