Volkswagen has said no to an electric Beetle many times, as recently at last year’s Geneva auto show, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting it. VWIDTalk, a forum about the new breed of electric vehicles coming out of Wolfsburg, dug into the European patent office website and found a handful of new-old names including e-Beetle, e-Karmann, e-Kubel and e-Golf Classic.
VW currently has three EVs in the works. The ID.3 is Golf-sized and goes on sale in Europe this month with a claimed European range (different test) of 261 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. The ID.4 is set for our shores and is about the size of a VW Tiguan. Range is said to be between 250-310 miles for two different versions and we think it’ll land in the low $30K range before tax credits. The last one on the burner is the ID.Buzz, a reimagining of the famous Microbus. That’s ones a little further down the pipeline, due to be launched in 2022.
